What shared Christmas parties are available in the City of London?

Nine, across four areas. Moorgate has Wonder Nights and Winters of the World; Monument has Disco Nights at Old Billingsgate; Tower Hill has five — Winter Wonderland Ball, Gatsby's Grand Soirée, Hollywood Gala, Murder Mystery and the Royal Nutcracker Banquet; and St Paul's has the Grand Masquerade Ball. Prices run from £125 to £180 + VAT per person.

The City is where the London shared Christmas party market is concentrated, and for a good practical reason: almost every guest can walk to it from their desk, and almost every guest can get home from it afterwards. If your offices are anywhere between Old Street and Tower Bridge, this is the shortlist to start with.

The nine City parties split cleanly into three kinds. There are the large-production party nights — Wonder Nights at Moorgate and Disco Nights in the vaults under Old Billingsgate — where the room is the event. There are the hotel ballroom balls clustered at Tower Hill and St Paul's, all-inclusive and black-tie in feel. And there is Winters of the World at Finsbury Square, which is not a dinner at all.

Moorgate — Wonder Nights at City Central at the HAC (EC1Y) and Winters of the World at Finsbury Square (EC2A). Both are walkable from Moorgate, Liverpool Street and Old Street. Two completely different formats at a similar price.

Monument — Disco Nights at the Vaults, in the brick cellars beneath Old Billingsgate on Lower Thames Street. One date only: Thursday 17 December.

Tower Hill — five parties across three hotels, the densest cluster in London. Winter Wonderland Ball, Gatsby's Grand Soirée and Hollywood Gala at the Leonardo Royal Tower Bridge, Royal Nutcracker Banquet at Leonardo Royal London City, and the Murder Mystery at the DoubleTree by Hilton Tower of London.

St Paul's — the Grand Masquerade Ball at Leonardo Royal London St Paul's, with five dates across December, more than any other City ballroom party.

Getting your guests home

Most City parties finish at 12:30am or 1am, which puts them past the last Thameslink and most mainline services. Worth knowing before you set a date:

Tower Hill, Monument and Moorgate are all on the District and Circle lines, which run later than the mainline stations.
Fenchurch Street (c2c, for Essex-bound guests) is a two-minute walk from the Tower Hill cluster.
Liverpool Street covers the Elizabeth line, Central line and Greater Anglia — the widest coverage of any City station.
Several of the Tower Hill and St Paul's hotels have bedrooms on site. If a chunk of your group travels in, ask us to check room availability on your date at the same time as the party.
